Seriously, no two people are the same. Hence, the "best weapon" is a personal matter. The best handgun I ever fired was a Bundeswehr P8, I was shooting zip ties off the targets with it the first time I picked it up. I was much more amused than the German range NCOIC.
I personally own a M1911A1 and an XD .40, XD being my concealed carry weapon. Not as strong as a .45, but I can carry a lot more rounds with a minimal trade off in strength. Plus I'm more accurate with the XD.
I know thereare a lot of people that prefer external safeties, but in a high stress situation, the last thing I need to worry about is flipping a safety to get the pistol ready to shoot. With my Glock, I just pull the pistol, aim at the target and fire. Nuff said.
Is kind of funny; did you know that the Springfield XD used features from at least 3 different guns? Is true; check your XD for example, here's a list:
1) Polymer construction from the Glock (and the H&K, who had the first ploymer gun in the market)
2) firing pin indicator on the back of the slide from the Walther P99.
3) Trigger safety from the Glock.
4) grip safety on the M1911.
5) Takedown lever from the Sig Sauer.
5) Ambi mag release like the H&K and Walther.
6) "captured" recoil spring, like the Glock.
Plus some other features unique to the XD: Springfield should be commended for taking all the best features of almost all other weapons and make a pistol that has won quite a few awards and is being used by a lot of people. I am not busting balls on the XD, I think the XD is a pretty cool pistol, but I like my Glock and I will stick with my Glock for a while.
